No one has ever told me that I can lose myself after having a baby... or babies. They tell me how much joy motherhood gives you and how in love you will be with your children. BUT there comes a point where you need to get your life back. Is there a time period? No... everyone is different and you will know when you’re ready! Here are a couple of simple steps that will help you rediscover yourself:
1. Let go of that GUILT! The voice inside of us will sometimes make us feel bad for the time spent away from your kids. But once you free yourself of that guilt, you have to remind yourself that you are good enough!
2. Make some time to yourself. You freed yourself from guilt, you deserve some time to focus on you. Do things that make YOU happy. You can be selfish for once, as long as you’re taking care of you! Reconnect with yourself daily.
3. Get that heart rate flowing and meditate. Physical activity can make such a huge difference. Exercise is great! But exercising isn’t just about losing weight. Get that body moving.... dance, run, walk, or stretch! Listen to music, read the Bible, write your goals down in a journal.
4. Spend time with your significant other. While you’re getting your life back, you also can’t forget about your spouse! Remember the time spent with each other without kids? Ask a family member, a friend, or hire a babysitter... go out on a date or stay home and enjoy an intimate dinner. Or even just enjoying a cup of coffee together before all the kids wake up can make such a huge difference.
5. Get those creative juices flowing. Did you know that cooking can also be an art, if you love it! Redecorating your house can also get you excited! That’s definitely what I enjoy doing right now. If it were up to me, our whole house would be decorated BUT I’m taking breaks in between.
